A little bit about us...

We are those cra-azys wandering the mean streets of Richmond VA looking for the best food and drink specials for the best price. Our goal is to hit up at least 1 new place each week and tell you all about it. The good bad and... well the questionable. Our ratings are as follows: thumbs up, thumbs down and thumbs sideways. Also since we may have different opinions on the deals we vote seperate but equal. Please enjoy..

Ragin' Cajun

Now for the sequel to top Rocky IV, in this corner weighing in at 1,004 miles outside the French Quarter to Richmond's historic Fan District aka the Ivan Drago of Po'Boys. We say this because when comparing these god like sandwiches they are Lady N'awlins Po'Boys are on Steroids. Although Caliente's aka Apollo Creed, had some good combinations never stood a chance.

If you recall from last week, the food was good but not great. This week the portion sizes and (free)french fries gave the 1-2 punch. TKO BABBBBBY

Mondays are special as it is PO BOY NIGHT, not to be confused with GUMBO NIGHT on TUESDAY! What a wonderful twist on a typical happy hour in addition to the nightly happy hours from M-F

Although we bragged about the size and taste(that's what she said). The Po'Boy was unbeatable. Angeli was a little disappointed that it came with mayo (even when she specifically asked for no mayo) and if it was an authentic Po'Boy the mayo would be infused with hot sauce. These are all side issues she is working through... slowly.. with counseling.

All in All for a 5 DOLLA BILL the food is more then most can consume and for that reason both PB & Angeli give it 2 thumbs up. PB would like to note if she had an extra thumb like that dude from Princess Bride she would even give it a third. Holla.

"Laissez les Bons Temps Rouler".. for you Americans that means "Let the Good Times Roll"

Big Easy in the Sleezy

This is the start of a two part adventure PB & Angeli are embarking on. The question is... who holds the title of the best Happy Hour Po'Boy in the River City..

With that said, it turns out all Po'Boy Happy Hours just happen to land on Mondays. Odd we know. So decisions have to be made... First things first we decided to stay true to our hood roots and go to Caliente. Represent ya'll..

The atmosphere was inviting but nothing special. Lots of wood and some outdoor seating, but you know we ain't there for fluffy seats, we are there for some PO BOYS Buddy. So for you Drinker McDrinkersons, they usually have a $1 beer(can) today it was Genny Cream Ale (yucko) & $3 Rail Drinks (not yucko)
But now DOWN TO BUSINESSSSSSSS. It was 1/2 off all Po'Boys from 5-10 (take note, the special is longer then your typical 5-7 happy hours). The Po'Boys ranged from $8.50-$10.50 and your choices are Shrimp, Chicken, Crawfish, Gator, Catfish and Oyster which you can have fried, blacken, BBQ, or Buffalo style. LOTS o' OPTIONS! They typically come with potato chips and a pickle spear but for a mere .50 extra you can get grits, braised greens, jamaican rice, refried beans, cole slaw, roasted potatoes, french fries of vegetable. We choose chips and tossed the pickle.

Taste-wise the cajun remoulade sauce made the sandwich. The portion size was no Titanic but it seemed to be worth the cash money we spent. Although even now while write this review we just don't feel inspired by our experience.. aka it didn't make us dance. Angeli did have some reservations about the Po'Boy Challenge seeing that she is kinda a Po'Boy Connoisseur.. her brief trip to the French Quarter left her feeling privileged over all these Po'Boy impostors.. ITS ALL ABOUT THE BREAD BABBY.. and this, this was just a roll. Toasted yes, but still a roll. You know what they say you can dress a tranny up but you know they aren't the real thing.
So yes our bill was just $7.44 for a nice meal and a gin and ginger but was it fireworks exploding in our mouths??..... ehhhh

So for lack of fireworks both PB & Angeli give this one two sideways thumbs.
TO BE CONTINUED....

Carb-ing Up

So, when we decided to start blogging about happy hours, we didn’t realize they come in all shapes and sizes… and we’s don’t discriminate. We went big and we aren’t talking Notorious, we are talking 2 App Happ at F.W. Sullivans.

After pouring over the menu for 2 days we decided to go for it. Even though at first we thought 2 appetizers/dips for $10 seems a little steep, we soon found out our choice paid off. (And we don’t normally make good choices)

OK the deal is, you get the choice of any 2 of their appetizers which range from $5-$9.  This is very important let me repeat VERY IMPORTANT… they don’t down size their portions for happy hour, they are freakin’ huge!!!  Also for the drink lovers they had $4 wines, $1 off draft/bottle beer and $1 off rail drinks.  Not too shabby but we came for the food.

That wasn’t the only thing that impressed us, the choices were out of this world!!! Most places give you the standard chips and salsa, mozz sticks etc.. but no no F.W. Sullivans takes  happy hour from “content with a good meal at a good price” to “High fives, shake your booty and slap your momma meal”. Which we did, expect for the slap yo momma part (your welcome Paula and Jane).

At first we were going to split 2 for $10 but after grazing over the menu we decided to go balls to the wall and get 2 apps each and splurge and splurge we did.

Bangkok Crispy Shrimp, Cheese and Bacon French Fries (CLASSIC), Hong Kong Crab Spring Rolls and wait for it…. Pork Shanks and Cheesy Grits.

In PB’s opinion, the Hong Kong Crab Spring Rolls made her taste buds dance like little fairies. Angeli’s was leaning more towards the Bangkok Crispy Shrimp as her award winner tonight. Similar to the Bang Bang Shrimp at Bone Fish Grill the Thai Garlic Chili Sauce was good enough to drink. But like always, give us, crispy french fries smothered in 2 types of cheeses, bacon, and sour cream and then you can say hello to foodcoma.com. The pork shanks fell of the bone (which kinda creeped PB out) and the cheesey grits were well… they were cheesey (and according to Angeli reminded her of tapioca pudding, forgive her she is a Yankee). All and all it was a great meal and with the extra left over’s was defiantly worth the extra cash money.

Okay we have to say this.. the food was great, the portion size fantastic, and the atmosphere seems, well like a great place to go after work but the shining star of the F.W. Sullivans experience was our waitress.. JENNIFER (PB guessed her name). She was just best waitress BY FAR we have ever had at a happy hour. She encouraged us to do our happy dance when he got the food, complemented us on our choices and the amount of food we consumed and with a bar full of people she didn’t rush us out and chit chatted with us often. But most importantly.. she DID NOT charge us for the sour cream.

2 Thumbs up from both PB and Angeli…  and don’t forget to look for us in Jennifer’s wedding as her bridesmaids.. she doesn’t know it yet but we are like this now à X

BANDITO'S

This is our first post so bare with us

We wanted to start off with the place that inspired us to start this masterpiece.
Located at 2905 Patterson Ave Richmond, VA 23221, they have the best bang for the buck.. literally the tacos are only a dollar!!! Of course this only applies from M-F, 5-7. They are not only some of the best tacos you will ever have but if you are particular regarding your "shell" you have the option of hard or soft (thats what she said). In addition to the happy hour special of dolla, dolla tacos you are greeted with 2 free baskets of chips and "the best salsa ever, made by the hands of a mexican god." Also to wash this delicioso taste explosion down, they offer $3 margaritia's (on the rocks w/ or w/o salt) and $2 Tecate's.

There is nothing like having to be rolled out of a restaurant with a $5 tab and for that both Peanut Butter or PB like she is known on the mean streets of Richmond and Angeli give Bandito's 2 thumbs up.

AAAAARRRRRRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIYYYYYYYYYYYBBBBBBBBBAAAAAAAAA!!!!
